Robert (Bob) McNeil Wynne, age 80, of Midland, Texas, died peacefully on July 24, 2010 at Midland Memorial Hospice surrounded by family and dedicated care givers. Bob was born April 13, 1930 in Electra, Texas to Robert Wilder Wynne and Clara McHugh Grimsley. He and his wife of 56 years, Dolores Moore Wynne, have made Midland their home since 1957. He was raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from North Dallas High School in 1947 where he was a member of the ROTC. He then attended North Texas Agricultural College (now UTA) in Arlington, Texas, going on to graduate from Oklahoma University with a degree in petroleum geology in 1950. Bob served the Army and was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK while completing his degree. He served his country in the capacity of First Lieutenant in the Korean War acting as an officer in the Artillery Division. Bob was the commanding officer of the second shipload of returning POW's at the end of the conflict. The ship docked in San Francisco after surviving a typhoon during the crossing of the Pacific.
Bob started his oil business career in 1952 working as a geologist for Sinclair Oil Company in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was while working at Sinclair he met his bride and started a family with the birth of his daughter JoEllen. The family moved to Midland Labor Day weekend of 1957 and Bob started his west Texas oil career with Perkins and Prothro of Wichita Falls. The family was then complete in 1958 with the birth of son Robert, Jr. James G. Brown Co. provided an opportunity which took the Wynne family to Roswell, New Mexico in 1962. After returning his family to Midland in 1963, he began his career as an independent oil producer. Initially operating as Robert M. Wynne, Inc. evolving into Wynco Energy in 1984. His son Robert joined him in business in 1994. Bob was active in AAPG, WTGS and SIPES throughout his professional career. He was well known in the oil business across west Texas, developing many professional and personal relationships which spanned his lifetime. His leisure time was spent hunting and fishing from Canada to Mexico, finally focusing on "the lake house" at Possum Kingdom Lake (PK). In 1965 the Wynne family became frequent visitors to the west side of PK Lake, renting various fishing cabins and catching lots of fish, while searching for the perfect property. Chez Wynne was purchased in 1977 and underwent much loving renovation by Bob and Dolores. This became a beautiful retreat for three generations of the Wynne family and served as the back drop for many fond memories. In 1994 the urge to travel resulted in the first of many RV trips with friends across the United States and Mexico.
Bob Wynne is survived by his wife Dolores, daughter JoEllen Wynne and husband Don Love of Austin, TX; son, Robert and wife Vanessa Wynne of Midland, TX.
